Description POSITION SUMMARYThe Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the Physician. The RN utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care in inpatient, outpatient and community settings. Responsibilities include overseeing coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and ensuring consistency with the medical treatment plan.
The patient care process includes:
- Assessment – Identification, gathering and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient/family/significant other including physical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural aspects.
- Planning – Identification of actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) that result in a documented plan of care.
- Intervention – Implementation of specific interventions or orders consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
- Evaluation – Determination of effectiveness of interventions in achieving the plan of care and conclusions on outcomes, with re‑assessment as needed.
- Prioritization of patient problems relative to biophysical, psychological, environmental, self‑care, educational and social status.
- Goal setting consistent with identified problems to provide direction for patient care and health promotion.
- Education – Consistent with identified problem and associated goals, critical for fostering patient empowerment.
Employee may be required to perform Limited Laboratory Services including patient identification, specimen collection, processing, quality control testing, instrument maintenance, reporting critical values, and maintaining competency/certification.
The RN actively supports performance improvement initiatives, leads patient care team members, and participates in educational activities to maintain professional growth.
** Specialty Areas:**
- Emergency Room – 2 years medical/surgical and/or ER experience preferred; ACLS required within 6 months of hire; ATCN/TNCC required within 24 months of hire; 8 contact hours of basic trauma and stroke education yearly; PALS or ENPC required within 12 months.
- Trauma Bay – 2 years trauma experience preferred; ACLS, PALS & ATCN required at time of hire.
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU/CTICU) – 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; ACLS required within 6 months of hire; CCRN preferred.
- Cardiovascular ICU (CVU) – 2 years critical care experience; ACLS required within 6 months of hire; CCRN preferred.
- Heart and Vascular Unit (HVU) – 2 years telemetry experience preferred; ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
- Operating Room – Medical/surgical and OR experience preferred; ACLS required by 12/31/24 for City OR RN; CNOR preferred.
- Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU/Same Day Surgery) – Critical care or PACU experience required; ACLS required at hire; PALS required within 6 months.
- Interventional Radiology – 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; ACLS at time of hire; PALS required within 1 year.
- Cath Lab – Preferred experience in cardiovascular, emergency, cath‑lab or telemetry; ACLS at time of hire.
- Endoscopy – 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
- Radiation/Oncology – Oncology experience preferred; OCN preferred; competency provider required within 6 months.
- Structural Heart – 2 years cardiology experience; performs phlebotomy, EKG, IV insertion; ACLS required at hire.
- Wound Care – Medical/surgical experience preferred; ACLS required within 6 months of hire; HBO training required within 1 year.
- Psychiatry – Medical/surgical and psychiatry experience preferred; QPRT annual education required within 6 months.
- Labor & Delivery – 2 years labor delivery experience preferred; ACLS within 6 months; NRP within 1 year.
- Neonatal ICU – 2 years NICU experience preferred; NRP within 1 year.
