Overview
The HVAC/R Mechanic is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems across the resort’s hotel, restaurants, winery facilities, bars, and event venues.
This role ensures all HVAC and refrigeration systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably to support guest comfort, food safety, wine preservation, and uninterrupted event operations. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled mechanic with strong diagnostic ability, a safety-first mindset, and professionalism to work within a guest-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance, service, and repairs on commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair air handlers, rooftop units (RTUs), split systems, exhaust and makeup air systems, walk-in coolers/freezers, wine storage systems, and ice machines.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues including refrigerant leaks, compressor failures, airflow restrictions, pressure imbalances, and sensor malfunctions.
- Test electrical components, motors, capacitors, relays, contractors, and control boards using appropriate diagnostic tools.
- Monitor and adjust digital controls to maintain proper temperature, humidity, and energy efficiency.
- Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, and leak detection in compliance with EPA standards.
- Clean and maintain coils, condensers, evaporators, and replace filters and belts to ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain refrigeration systems critical to kitchen, bar, and beverage operations, ensuring safe and consistent cooling for food and wine storage.
- Assist with equipment replacements, system upgrades, renovations, and capital improvement projects.
- Ensure all work complies with local mechanical codes, OSHA regulations, EPA guidelines, and company safety policies.
- Coordinate with facilities, culinary, and event teams to minimize operational disruptions and respond promptly to service calls.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; HVAC/R technical or trade school certification preferred.
- Valid EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of commercial HVAC/R experience.
- Experience in hospitality, hotel, or food-and-beverage environments is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of refrigeration systems and electrical controls.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Experience with digital thermostats and preventive maintenance software.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Professional communication skills and customer-service mindset.
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, confined spaces, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
- Physically capable of lifting equipment and tools as required.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and participate in an on‑call rotation.
Full‑time, on‑site position supporting hotel operations, restaurants, and outdoor event spaces.
