Overview
The Operating Room Assistant Technician assists the surgical team during operating procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The Assistant Technician provides direct patient care as a retractor/heart holder during surgery. Duties include arranging sterile setup, adjusting lights, cleaning the operating room, and skin preparation prior to surgery under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Technician assists with moving and positioning the patient as directed by the surgical RN and transporting patients and equipment.
The Associate communicates observations and data to the Clinical Associate and collects test specimens as directed, documenting patient care activities consistent with data collection and the test performed. This position works as part of the care team to meet customer needs, maintain confidentiality and respect, and support departmental objectives.
- Assist the surgical team during operating procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- Provide direct patient care as a retractor/heart holder during surgery.
- Arrange sterile setup, adjust lights, clean the operating room, and perform skin preparation prior to surgery under supervision.
- Assist with moving and positioning the patient as directed by the RN and transport patients and equipment.
- Assist patients with personal care needs and participate in the plan of care.
- Communicate observations and data collection to the Clinical Associate; collect test specimens as directed and document activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a customer‑focused, professional demeanor as part of the care team.
- EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of surgical technician assistant program administered by ARMC.
- LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: BLS certification required.
- EXPERIENCE: Preferred but not required. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents will be trained and then skill will be required within 30–60 days from date of hire.

Work Environment- Potential for exposure to hazards of the hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood‑borne pathogens, hazardous waste, and potential injury.
- Position requires standing, reaching and walking; ability to lift up to 60 lbs; good hand/eye coordination and finger/hand dexterity; adequate visual and hearing acuity; and ability to maintain retraction for long periods.

This position reports to the Clinical Manager of the Operating Room.
