Reporting directly to the Pool Manager, the Senior Lifeguard is a seasonal position that acts as the supervisor on duty when scheduled with a Junior Guard, providing swimming instruction, lifeguarding, completing pool maintenance and performing other administrative duties as required.
Position ResponsibilitiesLifeguarding Duties-30%
- Provide lifeguard supervision of pool patrons.
- Provide first aid treatment when required and handle emergency situations with professional training.
- Maintain pool water quality to meet Provincial Health Act requirements.
- Ensure good public relations with stakeholders, staff and patrons.
- Participate in training sessions for staff including but not limited to emergency procedures, safety, operating mechanical equipment, cleaning duties and monitoring water chemistry.
- Enforce rules and regulations of the facility and follow operational procedures.
- Maintain a high level of fitness (minimum bronze Cross swim time).
Lesson Instruction-25%
- Provide lesson instruction.
- Maintain records for lessons instructed and programs provided.
- Provide lesson results to students.
Maintenance-10%
- Perform and document ongoing mechanical and chemical maintenance.
- Ensure cleanliness of building and pool areas.
- Maintain proper procedures in admissions, handling cash, and performing nightly cash out.
- Assist with maintaining mechanical and safety equipment within the pool facility.
- Maintain procedures for handling registrations of all swim programs.
- Complete all other duties as assigned.
Supervisory-35%
- Act as the senior staff on duty when the Pool Manager or the Pool Coordinator are not on site, and supervise and mentor junior staff as required.
- Responsible for the health and safety of the workers and patrons under their supervision.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Completion of Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Must hold current certifications for:
National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor (SI), Standard First Aid and AED, CPR Level C required. - Minimum one (1) season worked as a Junior Lifeguard or equivalent experience required.
- AARFP Level I Swimming Pool Operator certification considered an asset.
- Staff supervision skills and experience considered an asset.
- Water Safety Instructor Certification considered an asset.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Work is conducted outdoors with potential exposure to adverse weather.
- Shift, evening and weekend work is required.
- Ability to deal with managing multiple demands on a regular basis.
- Physical effort required.
- Public contact may be confrontational.
The hourly wage is $28.02 to $30.52. This is a seasonal position. Position dates are approximately May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026.
This position is based in Niton at the Green Grove Pool, with occasional travel to the Yellowhead County Administrative Office located in Edson required.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Applicants must include a cover letter, resume, 2 written references and driver's abstract to be considered for an interview. Defensive Driving completion is required (5 year validity).
Successful applicants will be required to provide a Police Information Check & Vulnerable Sector with satisfactory results.
