The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Aquatic Coordinator, the Lifeguard 3 is responsible for delivering the highest quality of lifeguarding, lesson instruction, and advanced course delivery to patrons at the Manluk Centre. Additionally, the Lifeguard 3 will record accurate water chemistry readings, complete provincial water samples, and oversee the use of aquatic equipment to ensure that safe work procedures are being followed. The Lifeguard 3 will assist the Aquatic Coordinator with lifeguard training, in-service preparation, and employee scheduling.

This position is responsible for preventing injuries through active lifeguarding techniques and public education. The Lifeguard III will also oversee, assist, and complete maintenance tasks, administrative tasks, and other such duties when required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide the highest standard of lifeguarding, including effective scanning, patrolling and professionalism in a team setting.
  • Provide the highest standard of instruction, including the instruction of swimming techniques, strokes, water safety and lifesaving skills to patrons and staff.
  • Assist Instructors with their lessons when required.
  • Conduct opening, closing duties and provincial water tests when needed.
  • Responds to and supervises emergency situations, preforms first aid as required and ensures that required documentation is completed.
  • Prevent incidents: safeguard the public through enforcement of policies, public education, exceptional safety surveillance and routine safety inspections.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by promoting positive patron relations, answering questions, educating public and responding to concerns
  • Complete assigned maintenance such as cleaning the pool deck and change rooms, etc.
  • Complete necessary mechanical and operational checklists, forms, accident and near‑miss reports.
  • Provide instruction and training to all aquatic staff when required.
  • Ensure that all staff are engaged during their work hours with lesson plans, lifeguarding, maintenance, and special projects.
  • Enforce all Government, City, and Facility policies to maintain a high level of compliance with OH&S regulations, Alberta Pool standards, and industry best practices.
  • Make recommendations to the Aquatic Coordinator for in‑service training, lifeguard training, and day to day operations.
  • Assist with evaluating staff performance and providing feedback to the Aquatic Coordinator regarding probation and annual performance reviews.
  • Required to work a variety of shifts such as mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Complete other duties as assigned
Education, Qualifications, and Work Experience
  • Minimum 18 years old.
  • Minimum 3 years lifeguarding experience.
  • Possession of the following current certifications – ability to renew qualifications annually or as required:
    • Lifesaving Society’s National Lifeguard (NL)
