Registered Nurse

Your Opportunity:

Wetaskiwin has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse on our Day Surgery Unit. Wetaskiwin is a large rural hospital, and you will have the opportunity to work as part of our surgical and endoscopy teams. Wetaskiwin is a busy OR with three theaters performing a variety of general, gynecological, and ophthalmologic surgeries in addition to the established endoscopy program. We are excited to be working on expanding our programs in alignment with the Alberta Surgical Initiative and are looking for a dedicated RN to join our team.

You will report to the Operating Room department Manager and will be responsible for providing pre-operative and post-operative patient care, as well as working in the endoscopy suite providing conscious sedation. You are responsible for providing basic to advanced clinical nursing practice and maintaining safety throughout patient’s pre-operative, endoscopy and post-operative experiences. As the patient advocate utilizing both evidence-based measures and outcomes, you will provide a link between the home or Care Unit and the Operating Room.

This place of work is in a community designated for Canada Student Loan forgiveness. You may be eligible for Canada Student Loan forgiveness if you meet other eligibility requirements. Wetaskiwin is located 70 km south of Edmonton in the heart of Central Alberta. The city name comes from the Cree word which means “the hills where peace was made”. You can take a self-guided tour through the historic downtown and read about the peace cairn that commemorates sixty years of peace between the Blackfoot and the Cree.

Wetaskiwin has an extensive trail system that leads you around the entire city with a direct connection to By-the-Lake Park.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

PLEASE NOTE:

Provisional Permit holders will be paid $ - $ per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4):

As Required.

Previous experience in conscious sedation, day surgery and endoscopy preferred.
