Position: Licensed Practical Nurse - Unit 3F4 Ortho

Your Opportunity:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centered care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with the UAH and AHS policy and procedures. 3F4 is an 18+ bed unit providing care to Orthopedic and General Surgery patients received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care unit and directly from home and/or surgery clinics.

Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment. As a LPN, you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and families.

The LPN provides safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. Working within the full scope of practice, the LPN observes, monitors, reports, and documents changes in the patients physical, mental, and emotional state, assists the patient with activities of daily living and provides the patient and family with relevant information and teaching. The LPN is responsible to collaborate as a member of the health care team, delivering consistent quality care, to meet the needs of the patient.

Description:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Ability to communicate findings concisely, accurately, in both written and verbal form, deal with stressful situations, prioritize complex patient care needs and workload assignment, while dealing with frequent interruptions. Demonstrated initiative, reliability, flexibility and critical thinking. Maintain collaborative working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment. Strong patient teaching skills.
