As a Communications Advisor, you will provide integrated external and internal communications strategy and advice in support of corporate, departmental and branch projects, issues and initiatives. You will work with teams to identify and define business problems, craft communications strategies to assist in solving those problems and implement plans and associated tactics.
The responsibilities of this position range from the development of comprehensive integrated communications plans, to project management and relationship building. You are required to work closely with colleagues on projects across portfolios. You will provide strategic communications advice and support to help resolve communications challenges and needs, and will exemplify the City of Edmonton’s cultural commitments.
What will you do?
Lead, develop, manage and implement integrated marketing and communications plans and projects for both external and internal audiences
Identify emerging issues and provide timely advice, responsive issues management and effective communication strategies
Manage media relations and potential issues, including reviewing Council reports, planning and managing media events, developing strategies, consistent messaging, coaching spokespeople and serving as a spokesperson as required
Build relationships with business partners and colleagues to ensure information and insights are shared in a manner that enables quality advice and planning
Work with clients, designers and suppliers to help create effective communication, marketing and advertising products
Provide communications support to public engagement initiatives that involve residents in the development of projects and initiatives
Write news releases, public service announcements, media advisories, newsletters and other communication tactics resulting from well‑developed strategic plans. Edit, develop and update 311 messaging for programs, projects and initiatives
Use social media channels to advance business goals and enhance internal and external communication efforts
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Degree in a communications, public relations, or related field, supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations, public affairs or public information position
OR
Diploma in a communications, public relations or related field, supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations, public affairs or public information position
Skills required for success
Strategic communication plans experience with the ability to successfully create, develop, implement and evaluate areas of the plan
Advertising, printing, graphic design, traditional media, social media and other web‑based communications experience
Experience supporting effective public engagement activities for project development from concept to implementation
Experience working in a government, public sector or large organization would be an asset
Demonstrated experience with traditional media relations, coaching spokespeople and acting as a spokesperson
Proficiency in Google Suite, Google Applications and Gmail is required
Experience related to project management and communicating with stakeholder groups
Relationship‑building skills with ability to identify and manage issues through a client consulting approach
Superior written, verbal communication and presentation skills

This posting is for one temporary position up to 11 months in duration.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Monday‑Friday.
Salary: $48,841 - $61,547 (Hourly); $86,045.63 - $ (Annually).
