Director of Communications

Our client is searching for a Director of Communications to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of communications, including marketing campaigns, graphic design and social media, media inquiries, and the planning, development, and implementation of communications strategies. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team leader with strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, and have experience managing communications, marketing, and design functions in a progressively senior leadership role.

Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with organizational priorities and reflects the cultural values and identity of the community
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of all communications, marketing, and graphic design initiatives across departments and affiliated institutions
  • Ensure consistency and cultural sensitivity in all messaging, branding, and public-facing materials
  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with internal departments, leadership, and external stakeholders, including media, partners, and community members
  • Provide strategic advice and leadership on branding, media relations, and stakeholder engagement to executive leadership and department heads
  • Identify emerging issues and opportunities, and proactively develop communication responses and campaigns that are timely, relevant, and impactful
  • Guide and mentor a multidisciplinary communications team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
  • Oversee the development of content for various platforms, including digital, print, and broadcast media, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communications initiatives, using data and analytics to inform continuous improvement
  • Manage departmental operations, including budgeting, staffing, and performance management, with a focus on efficiency, accountability, and innovation
  • Maintain a high level of political and cultural awareness, exercising discretion and professionalism in all interactions
  • Your strengths include:
  • Post-secondary or Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Arts, or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in communications, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Word Press, Hootsuite, SEO, and social media platforms
  • Strong understanding of branding, marketing, and digital media strategies
  • Experience in videography, photography, and graphic design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a track record of building collaborative partnerships
