Reporting to the Chief of Staff, Edmonton Police Service, the Executive Director of Corporate Communications Division is responsible for leading and coordinating the internal and external communication and public engagement activities of the Edmonton Police Service (EPS). This includes overseeing the development of the internal and external Communication and Engagement Strategies, strengthening two way communication with the public and community partners, and providing senior executive level recommendations that support transparency, trust, and meaningful public dialogue.
Responsibilities will include:
Providing oversight to the Corporate Communications and Partnership and Stakeholder Divisions.Providing oversight to the Media Relations and Public Affairs, Digital Content and Marketing and Partnership and Stakeholder teamsProviding strategic direction and executive management including establishing objectives, monitoring standards of performance, setting priorities, and final approval of policies, procedures, and working processes.Attracting, developing, evaluating, and retaining appropriate high-caliber employees, and fostering a healthy and positive work environment that promotes respect, professionalism, and quality client service.Planning for and responding to ongoing and changing trends, demands, and organizational needs – and ensuring that EPS external communications and relationships are well aligned with community.Ensuring timely, accurate, consistent, and effective communication of information to/from the Chief, Chief of Staff and Chief’s Committee.Assisting the Chief, Chief of Staff, and Chief’s Committee in communications and stakeholder relations.Leading communication projects on behalf of the Chief and Chiefs Committee ensuring appropriate members of the EPS are contributors.Elevating communication or reputational issues to the Chief of Staff which the Chief should be aware and framing/positioning ideas to resolve the problem/mitigate the risk.Development of public and community engagement strategies that inform and advance the strategic and operational goals of EPS.Participating as an active member of Chiefs Committee and the Senior Leadership Group and accordingly contributing to corporate level decision-making.Job Requirements:
Post-secondary education in communications or a similar field is considered an asset.Minimum of ten (10) years of senior communications experience in a large organization, including experience in providing media and communication direction to senior management.Possess political acumen and a heightened ability to perceive the formal and informal influences on a situation.Strong understanding of current and historic events to identify some emerging events or trends that will impact the EPS.Proven ability in providing sound organizational strategic direction and guidance along with successful implementation.Ability to develop and influence both internal and external stakeholders through partnerships.Ability to articulate, advocate, and inspire support for the organization’s mission and initiatives, throughout the organization.Models the value system of the organization and demonstrates a high proficiency of organizational leadership competencies.Exemplifies agility in thinking with an action-oriented mindset that focuses on broader objectives and can therefore reprioritize in response to a changing landscape.Superior leadership, team-building and managerial skills.Ability to foster an organizational culture of engagement, accountability, positive achievements and continuous learning and development.Extensive experience in successfully managing human, financial and material resources.Strong problem solving, analytical, organizational, and administrative skills.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Ability to work with corporate management, employees, media, members of the Edmonton Police Commission and the larger community.Excellent interpersonal, coaching, negotiation, and consultation skills.Hours of Work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
Salary Range: 95M, Salary Grade BM2, $184,229 - $230,284 Annually
