Description
The Executive Director, Human Resources (EDHR) is responsible for the development, implementation, and vision of Alberta Health Services’ overall people strategy, identification of organizational workforce priorities, and oversight of the implementation of people and health professions programs, policies, and services that are delivered through the service agreement with Health Shared Services. It ensures delivery of human resources, workplace health and safety and health professions and practice services are effectively aligned with the strategic direction and culture of AHS.
Reporting to Senior Vice President Corporate and Shared Services – AHS, is accountable for ensuring availability of an integrated human resources service for AHS and acts as strategic counsel to the Chief Executive Officer and the executive leadership team on all aspects of people‑based solutions and services. This role ensures delivery of human resources services as set out in the service agreement with Health Shared Services and is responsible for creation, execution, monitoring, and reporting of integrated strategic workforce plans and a people strategy across AHS.
The EDHR is accountable for internal communications, engagement, and change management with the AHS workforce. The EDHR is accountable to foster relationships, both internal and external to the organization and to support integration and coordination of service delivery, including, but not limited to HR Business Partnerships, Talent and Workforce Strategies, Labour Relations, HR Shared Services, and Workplace Health & Safety.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) or related designation (e.g. MHRM, SHRM‑SCP, etc.) is required. The successful candidate brings at least ten (10) years of progressive experience in human resources, including at least three (3) years in a senior leadership role, and is experienced in providing strategic human resources advice to executive leaders.
