About the position

Duties
As a Maintenance Worker III – Marmot Pit Operator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the Marmot Pit site.

Duties include:

operating heavy equipment (e.g., front-end loaders) to move and place materials in accordance with the pit restoration/usage plan; inspecting incoming loads from third-party users for contaminated or unacceptable materials; verifying that all pit users hold proper approvals and authorizations before allowing material to be dumped; ensuring materials are deposited in designated locations; managing access to the pit to ensure only authorized users are on site at all times;

effectively resolving conflicts between pit users and managing situations where contractors are denied use due to material contamination; and maintaining site logs and records. This position requires working independently with minimal supervision in an outdoor environment from approximately April to November, with the possibility of extension.

James, British Columbia. The Field Unit Superintendent is located in Jasper. In addition to Fort St. James NHS, the Field Unit is also responsible for five other national historic sites located within Jasper National Park:
The Jasper Park Information Centre NHS, Athabasca Pass NHS, Yellowhead Pass NHS, Jasper House NHS and the Maligne Lake Chalet and Guest House NHS.Due to the location of Parks Canada’s heritage places, we work with a wide diversity of Indigenous peoples across the country. Of the lands and waters in our care, more than three quarters of these are managed with the support of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
