The Innovation, Privacy, and Stewardship (IPS) division is accountable for the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy; innovation programs and governance; protection of personal information; enterprise information management and technology policy, training and awareness; business relationship management with partner departments; project management; and business reporting. Within the IPS division, the Privacy, Policy and Governance Branch leads the enhancement and development of enterprise technology, content and privacy management legislation, policy, and strategic initiatives. The branch is also accountable for all department legislation and policy and delivery of privacy services and support for government.
The Digital Transformation and Strategic Foresight Team is one of two core teams within the Policy Integration and Digital Policy Unit in the Privacy, Policy, and Governance Branch. The team develops and implements enterprise-wide digital strategies that enable modernization, improve service delivery, and enhance user experience. It provides guidance on best practices in digital transformation, data‑driven decision‑making, and digital governance frameworks.
The team aligns digital strategies with organizational goals, collaborating with other divisions to support the Government of Alberta’s digital transformation through policy, legislation, and regulatory frameworks. It anticipates future trends, risks, and opportunities in the digital landscape through horizon scanning and scenario planning and advises leadership on how evolving technologies and societal shifts may influence policy, programs, and service delivery.
The team also leads the Information Management and Technology (IMT) Policy Program.
Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager, Digital Transformation & Strategic Foresight, the Policy Analyst is responsible for developing and monitoring policy and regulatory frameworks to support the Government of Alberta’s digital transformation. This role also includes creating and overseeing frameworks for content management such as data, information, and records management, to align with enterprise digital and IMT priorities.
Contribute to government-wide content management policy instruments through research, jurisdictional scans, and reviewing draft materials.
Provide writing, editing, and presentation support to ensure clear, accurate, and well‑designed digital transformation materials.
Manage stakeholder communications by drafting responses, coordinating with subject matter experts, and ensuring efficient information flow.
Build and maintain networks to gather expert insights and support consultation activities that inform policy development.
Capture and analyze consultation findings to develop clear, actionable recommendations for policy and decision‑making.
