Human Resources Business Partner
JOB DESCRIPTION
Insight Global is looking for an HR Business Partner to join the Lumber organization at the largest timber supplier. The candidate will support a unionized manufacturing site in Drayton Valley, AB. In this role, the successful candidate will be required to build relationships with site leaders with an ability to coach through HR related issues and understand the business operations from both a strategic and tactical perspective.
The successful candidate will need to have a strong labor relations background, ability to diagnose organizational issues, develop solutions, and implement HR action plans in partnership with the site Manager and be willing to take on special projects as needed. This role will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the HR functions for the Drayton Valley mill.
Other tasks include:
- Strategic business partner to the Drayton Valley leadership team as well as the broader Region HR Team.
- Provide top-quality coaching, consultations, and solutions in all areas of HR, including employee relations, talent management, and leadership training.
- Support leadership team with people development by identifying skill gaps and developing solutions.
- Work with Unit Manager to support Individual Development Plans and Performance Management Plans for the team to ensure quality goals and targets.
- Lead workplace investigations, work with legal department, and prepare comprehensive reports of findings.
- Work closely with management and the union to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention.
- Collaborate with the HR team and site leadership to champion and accelerate a culture of excellence in which people feel engaged and inspired to deliver top business results.
- Partner with leaders to develop and implement diversity and inclusion strategies.
- Responsible for salaried and hourly staffing functions (including sourcing, recruiting, retention, and onboarding process).
- Promote and encourage innovative thoughts and ideas.
- Analyze trends and metrics to develop solutions and programs.
- Ensure site compliance with provincial and federal laws.
3-5 years of HR Business Partner or equivalent HR experience
- Comfortable working in a lumber mill environment or equivalent (manufacturing/industrial)
- Experience supporting unionized environments, including exposure to labour relations, grievances, and supporting arbitration preparation
- Strong relationship-building capabilities and commitment to learning operations, with the ability to engage effectively with the workforce
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to coach, influence, and work across long-tenured and newer leadership teams
- Demonstrated safety leadership and comfort supporting investigations or employee-related response activities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, assess HR implications and manage details
- Broad HR functional knowledge across compensation, employee relations, performance management, talent development, and employment legislation
