Human Resources Business Partner - Full-Time, Permanent Position (Edmonton)

The PositionThis full‑time, permanent role is located in Edmonton and reports to the Director of Human Resources. The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) will serve as a strategic consultant to management and staff, promote a positive workplace culture, and advance staff engagement and development.
Key Responsibilities- Recruitment
- Lead full‑cycle recruitment: create job postings, screen resumes, conduct interviews, and onboard new hires.
- Collaborate with department managers to identify staffing needs and recommend sourcing strategies.
- Maintain a qualified talent pool through social media, job boards, and networking events.
- Employee and Labour Relations
- Provide coaching and strategic advice on collective agreement interpretation, policies, and employment legislation.
- Manage workplace investigations and lead the grievance process through arbitration when required.
- Disability Management
- Administer disability programs and manage WCB claims.
- Communicate with stakeholders to adjudicate claims and develop return‑to‑work plans.
- Escalate issues to vendors as necessary.
- Job Classification
- Conduct classification assessments and develop recommendations.
- Pay & Benefits
- Support employee benefits and payroll inquiries.
- Coordinate with vendors to ensure accurate payroll processing.
- Assist with audits and resolve compensation or benefits issues.
Strategic thinker, confident business partner, proven record of driving initiatives, and ability to handle sensitive HR matters while maintaining confidentiality. In‑depth knowledge of legislation, collective agreements, and strong relationship building with union representatives, management, peers, and external stakeholders.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field with a minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in employee relations and HR.
- Experience supporting a unionized environment.
- Strong ability to manage competing priorities and meet critical deadlines.
- Creative thinker, problem solver, works both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Discretion with sensitive and confidential information.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication; clear translation of complex concepts.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
