The Association of Independent Schools and Colleges in Alberta's mandate is to promote and empower independent schools in Alberta. AISCA serves as the voice of independent schools and Early Childhood Services operators, representing over members and more than 56, students.
The Co-Executive Director (Public Affairs & Government Relations) provides senior leadership for AISCA's advocacy, government relations, media engagement, and external stakeholder work. This role operates within a shared leadership model, working in equal partnership with the current Executive Director, who will be responsible for Member Services & Professional Practice. This role reports to the AISCA Board of Directors.
Key Focus Areas
Lead AISCA's government relations, advocacy, and public affairs strategyServe as AISCA's primary spokesperson with government, media, and external stakeholdersBuild and maintain relationships with MLAs, Ministers, senior officials, and municipal leadersRepresent AISCA in consultations, advocacy forums, and sector partnershipsOversee public communications, media relations, and issues managementSupport and strengthen member advocacy effortsConduct external environmental scanning and advise the Board on emerging risks and opportunitiesShare joint responsibility for strategic planning, Board reporting, staff leadership, and organizational risk managementLeadership & Governance
The Co-Executive Directors are jointly accountable to the AISCA BoardEach Co-ED has primary authority within their functional portfolioThe role requires strong collaboration, judgment, and alignment within a co-leadership structureQualifications:
experience in government relations, advocacy, public affairs, or political strategyStrong understanding of public policy and stakeholder engagementProven leadership, communication, and relationship-building skillsInterested in working effectively within a co-leadership modelExperience in education or the not-for-profit sector is an assetEmployment Details
