About the position

Duties
The EG-02 Water Technician is responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of potable water systems throughout Jasper National Park, ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of drinking water in full compliance with Parks Canada guidelines, policies, and legislative standards.

Key responsibilities include monitoring system meters, gauges, and treatment equipment; collecting, analyzing, and documenting operational data; conducting routine bacteriological and chemical sampling; and making operational adjustments to filtration, chlorination, and UV disinfection processes.

The role supports the implementation and rescission of Boil Water Advisories, assists with cartridge filtration systems, and operates and troubleshoots equipment such as Stenner chlorine pumps, UV units, and pocket colorimeters.

Working both independently in remote environments and collaboratively with trades and maintenance teams, the Water Technician ensures system reliability through proactive problem-solving, accurate reporting, and adherence to safety, environmental protection, and public health standards.

James, British Columbia. The Field Unit Superintendent is located in Jasper. In addition to Fort St. James NHS, the Field Unit is also responsible for five other national historic sites located within Jasper National Park:
The Jasper Park Information Centre NHS, Athabasca Pass NHS, Yellowhead Pass NHS, Jasper House NHS and the Maligne Lake Chalet and Guest House NHS.Due to the location of Parks Canada’s heritage places, we work with a wide diversity of Indigenous peoples across the country. Of the lands and waters in our care, more than three quarters of these are managed with the support of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
