Arts, Culture and Status of Women (ACSW) works to improve Albertans’ quality of life through support of cultural development, historical preservation and increased gender equality. Tourism and Sport (TS) is responsible for the continued growth of Alberta’s tourism and sport sectors.
Role Responsibilities
This position supports two ministries – Arts, Culture and Status of Women and Tourism and Sport – through a shared services model, providing legislative, policy, regulatory, and governance support across both organizations. Based in the Policy, Planning and Legislative Services Branch within ACSW, the Legal and Legislative Services Advisor (PS4) supports legislative, regulatory, policy, and contract‑related work. The role provides analysis, coordination, and advice to enable effective development, administration, and oversight of legislation, regulations, ministerial orders, contracts, and governance frameworks.
Support ministry agency, board, and commission governance, including research, interpretation, and coordination related to mandates, appointments, and governance obligations.
Contribute to the Ministry’s Red‑Tape Reduction work, including supporting the maintenance and review of regulatory requirement inventories, analyzing impacts of proposals, and identifying opportunities to reduce administrative burden.
Support contract and grant review processes, ensuring consistency with government requirements and facilitating coordination between program areas and Legal Services when needed.
Support ministry policy, legislative and regulatory development, including conducting research, drafting materials, and helping ensure policy intent is appropriately reflected in legislative instruments.
Coordinate cross‑ministry input and collaboration, responding to information requests, preparing briefing materials, and supporting project management activities.
Prepare high‑quality written products such as briefing notes, correspondence, legislative drafting instructions, technical summaries, and presentations for senior officials.

Qualifications
University graduation in a related field (e.g., Law, Public Policy or Administration, Political Science, Commerce, Business, etc.), plus four years of progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, and 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Experience conducting policy, legislative, or regulatory analysis, including research, interpretation, and development of options or recommendations.
Experience drafting technical documents such as briefing materials, contract‑related documents, legislative drafting instructions, or analytical reports.
Experience working with government processes, including policy cycles, legislative development, regulatory review, or public sector governance frameworks.
Experience supporting or coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders, demonstrating strong organizational, communication, and analytical abilities.
Assets
Master’s degree in law or public administration.
Knowledge of legislative processes, regulatory review requirements, and public sector governance in Alberta.
Experience in a government or broader public sector environment.
