There’s nothing quite like the moment the gates fly open.

We’re looking for experienced, confident horse people to join our Seasonal Racing Gate Crew at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino for the Thoroughbred race season.

If you’re calm under pressure, quick on your feet, and comfortable working with powerful athletes in a high‑energy environment, this role puts you right at the heart of the action.

Please note: This is a seasonal position for the Thoroughbred race season only.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Helping load horses safely into the starting gate on race days and during morning training
  • Working alongside the Starter to ensure smooth, professional race starts
  • Setting up and positioning the starting gate for each race
  • Assisting with track rail adjustments and preparing the gate area
  • Testing equipment and making sure everything is race‑ready
  • Being part of the team that delivers that thrilling 'and they're off!' moment
What Makes You a Great Fit:
  • Strong horsemanship and confidence working around horses in tight spaces
  • Ability to stay calm, focused, and alert in high‑pressure moments
  • Solid organizational and time management skills
  • Quick thinker with good judgment

    Reliable, professional, and team‑oriented
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision
What You’ll Need:
  • Minimum 2 years of Gate Crew experience
  • Working knowledge of Thoroughbred racing operations
  • High school diploma (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Ability to obtain a Horse Racing Alberta (HRA) License
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, race days, weekends, and holidays
