Take your expertise as a P.Eng. to the next level by leading the technical evolution of our city’s most vital infrastructure. In this role, you’ll trade routine tasks for high-impact ownership, independently executing asset management engineering and structural analysis while supervising the execution of engineered designs for a growing inventory of bridges and major structures. You’ll be more than a technical lead;

you’ll be a mentor to a dedicated team of technologists and a key strategic partner to stakeholders across the City, providing the specialized engineering needed to keep our community safe and connected.

What will you do?

Provide engineering in a transportation and open space context with a particular focus on bridges, culverts, overhead sign structures and other structural engineered assets

Review technical reports and develop recommendations for their approval

Perform analysis, design, evaluation and preparation of calculations for professional work products including drawings for maintenance repairs and determining the structural capacity and safe operating limits of our inspected assets

Conduct technical review of engineering assessments and engineering designs to determine the maintenance requirements and/or implications

Perform and assist in standard BIM and OSIM inspections and prepare the required inspection forms/reports and photo documents

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience in Civil Engineering

Must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing and registered with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to commencement of employment

Previous or active AT BIM (Class B or

A) or OSIM Inspection certification, or qualification to obtain one or both of these certifications

Experience in bridge engineering, with an extensive focus on bridge inspections and condition assessment

Experience in managing transportation (pavement) and/or open space assets (retaining walls, boardwalks, etc.)

Assets:

Master’s degree in Civil Engineering

Specialized Bridge Expertise:
Includes experience in bridge structural engineering consulting, inspection, assessment, and construction, as well as bridge load evaluation and general knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code

Project and Asset Management:
Related project management and engineering experience in functional planning, asset management, and detailed design for bridges, along with experience with quality management systems

Technical Tools and Systems:
Experience in specialized systems and software such as eBMS, AT TIMS, AT TRAVIS, SAP, and CSIBridge, and experience with overland drainage as it relates to engineered structures

Skill required for success:

Engineering and Technical Judgement:
Ability to analyze complex technical information, make timely decisions, exercise sound engineering judgment, and apply working knowledge of bridge and structural asset management and prioritization

Operational Excellence and Compliance:
Ability to develop new processes and work procedures to improve service delivery, implement and ensure compliance with City policies, and knowledge of occupational health and safety and environmental regulations

Collaboration and Communication:
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and effective verbal and written communication

Professional Conduct and Workplace

Skills:

Ability to represent the City of Edmonton professionally, general competence in Google and Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to work outdoors
