Overview

Grizzly Trek is currently seeking one C-Commissioning & Startup Coordinator to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta. This is a contract position and is classified as safety-sensitive. Reporting to the CSU Manager, the successful candidate will prepare for and lead the safe Commissioning and Startup of a Hydrogen Liquefaction Unit, while also supporting commissioning activities for a cryogenic Air Separation Unit during early project phases.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare for and lead the safe Commissioning and Startup of the Hydrogen Liquefaction Unit under the direction of the CSU Manager.
  • Support commissioning of a cryogenic Air Separation Unit during early startup phases.
Construction Phase
  • Become fully familiar with the CSU Execution Plan, project schedule, and systemization strategy.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the assigned process unit and build the expertise required to coordinate C&SU activities.
  • Establish working relationships with CSU, Construction, Engineering, and Operations personnel.
  • Receive and complete Safe Work Permit (SWP) training and become qualified to issue permits.
  • Understand system scope, turnover sequence, cleaning plans, and required temporary spools and consumables.
  • Review, comment on, and finalize commissioning packages and procedures in alignment with engineering and vendor requirements.
  • Become proficient with Smart Completions (Completions Management System) and support Construction Complete walkdowns.
  • Understand punch list processes and CSU system handover management.
C&SU Phase
  • Follow EH&S standards and lead safe field execution of CSU work.
  • Audit, intervene, coach, and mentor personnel to ensure safe work practices.
  • Follow SIMOPS requirements and communicate planned activities directly to the construction workforce.
  • Support Operations Readiness Inspection (ORI/PSSR) prior to startup.
Daily Work Execution
  • Attend and support Construction Complete and Mechanically Complete walkdowns.
  • Participate in daily CSU meetings and contribute to three‑week lookahead planning.
  • Coordinate activities between Field Operations and Craft Discipline Leads.
  • Lead resolution of field execution issues and escalate as required.
  • Act as liaison with vendors and specialty contractors; assist in resolving barriers and monitor performance.
  • Support development and issuance of night shift Daily Order Instructions (DOIs).
Hydrogen & Cryogenic Specific
  • Execute high‑pressure leak tests and vacuum tests to verify integrity of cold box and storage systems.
  • Assist in startup of hydrogen compressors, turbo‑expanders, and hydrogen conversion catalysts.
  • Execute nitrogen and helium purging cycles to ensure oxygen‑ and moisture‑free systems prior to hydrogen introduction.
  • Manage initial cool‑down sequences and first introduction of liquid hydrogen into storage tanks.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in gas processing, refining, or cryogenic air separation units; hydrogen liquefaction or LNG experience is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of cryogenic systems and liquid hydrogen properties (approx. –253°C) and contamination risks.
  • Familiarity with high‑speed turbo‑machinery and reciprocating compressors.
  • One of the following:
    Power Engineer (minimum 3rd Class), Journeyman Interprovincial Red Seal, Process Technician/Technologist, Professional Process Engineer, or equivalent experience.
