Grizzly Trek is currently seeking one C-Commissioning Operator – Utilities (Water) Unit to join our team at an Alberta industrial project site. This is a contract position, ideally suited to an experienced operator committed to safety and operational excellence. Reporting to the Commissioning Coordinator for the Water/Common Areas, the successful candidate will oversee the initial startup, testing, and stabilization of Water & Common process areas, supporting a seamless transition from construction to operations.
Responsibilities- Oversee startup, testing, and stabilization of Water & Common systems, including Cooling Tower and Veolia Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Electrode ionization (EDI) units.
- Work closely with vendors and subcontractors, performing hands‑on field activities, troubleshooting equipment, verifying system performance against design specifications, and supporting training of Operations personnel.
- Adhere to all project site‑specific safety directives and initiatives, including the SIMOPS (Safety In Transition) plan.
- Understand and follow all EH&S standards, particularly related to permitting, energy isolation (LOTO), and Basic Safety Process (BSP) requirements.
- Act as a Safety Ambassador by participating in site safety drills, inspections, safety meetings, and toolbox sessions; ensure incidents are promptly reported.
- In the first three months: review System Commissioning Packages and procedures; work with the Commissioning Coordinator to understand startup plans; complete Safety Work Permit (SWP) training.
- Support Construction Complete (CC) and Mechanically Complete (MC) walkdowns.
- Install energy isolations and issue SWPs as required; follow direction from the CSU Coordinator and provide daily progress reports.
- Execute commissioning and startup procedures; redline Operations Site Work Instruction Manuals (SWIMs/Operating Procedures).
- Support and manage vendors and contractors on site; monitor performance and progress.
- Provide mentorship and share commissioning/startup knowledge with less experienced team members.
- Support RO/EDI membrane startup, ensuring permeate water quality meets specifications; assist with testing and optimization of RO Clean-In-Place (CIP) procedures.
- Manage cooling tower chemistry and blowdown control to maintain heat exchange efficiency and system balance.
- Support control system testing, including PLC/HMI I/O checkout, loop testing, and alarm verification.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Power Engineer (minimum 4th Class).
- 3–10 years of operations experience; commissioning and start‑up experience considered a strong asset.
- Required safety certifications: CSTS-20, Basic Scaffold Safety (CSTS-20), Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry & Monitoring, WHMIS, H2S Alive.
- Experience with cooling towers, Reverse Osmosis (RO) units, and EDI operation.
- Previous hands‑on commissioning experience within industrial water or utilities systems.
- Industrial project site supporting commissioning and startup of water and utilities systems. The role requires significant field presence, hands‑on equipment troubleshooting, collaboration with vendors and subcontractors, and adherence to strict safety and SIMOPS protocols.
