Matchbox Consulting is recruiting on behalf of its client, a multidisciplinary engineering and infrastructure consulting firm known for delivering high-quality, community-focused projects across transportation, municipal, bridge, building, and environmental sectors.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative bridge engineering team delivering projects across the full asset lifecycle from concept planning and preliminary engineering through detailed design, construction support, and long-term asset management. This role offers exposure to technically diverse projects, including transportation, pedestrian, and utility bridges, as well as related transportation infrastructure, using steel, concrete, and timber solutions.
The position is well suited to a technically strong bridge engineer who enjoys mentoring others, contributing to complex designs, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Perform structural analysis and design for bridges and related transportation infrastructure, including retaining walls, bridge-size culverts, and overhead sign structures
Prepare technical reports, option analyses, and detailed design calculations
Develop and maintain design notes, drawings, and construction packages
Provide technical input into proposals and project planning activities
Prepare quantity take-offs and cost estimates
Review construction submittals and provide technical support during construction
Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff
Conduct limited field inspections and site visits as required.
Requirements
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA, or eligibility to register from another Canadian province
Post-secondary education in engineering with a focus on structural engineering
Minimum of five years of experience in bridge design and/or structural engineering
Strong working knowledge of Canadian design codes and standards
Experience delivering bridge projects from concept through construction
Demonstrated ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and support junior staff
Interest in mentoring and sharing design best practices
Assets (Nice to Have):
Master’s degree (M.Eng. or MSc) specializing in Structural or Bridge Engineering
Experience working with provincial transportation agencies or similar public sector clients
Seismic design and retrofit experience
Exposure to suspension or cable-stayed bridge design
