About the job Instrumentation Technician / Engineer RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and implement field instrumentation.
Involve the extensive inter-discipline co-ordination during design / engineering.
Specify, select and purchase instrumentation and valves for gas processing equipment.
Ensure that the instrumentation will be functional prior to their departure from the TDE shop.
Co-ordinate the work between office, shop and provide the assistance during the construction and commissioning.
Lead the Instrumentation activities on assigned project.
Develop and review the P&IDs, alarm & trip set point list.
Design, select and purchase instrument equipment for assigned projects.
Perform the sizing calculations for the control valves, flow meters, PSVs, orifice plates, thermowells and level instruments.
Create and maintain instrument index, datasheets, pneumatic & impulse hook-up drawings, I/O list.
Specify and select the pressure, level, flow, analytical instruments, and fire & gas detectors.
Read the process flow diagrams, heat & material balances, hazardous area classification drawings, plant and piping layouts, piping isometrics, vessels/process equipment datasheets etc.
Calculate the power / air consumption and other required utility for instrument design.
Calibrate, trouble shoot and test the instruments and actuated valves.
Provide the technical assistance to other disciplines in Instrumentation point of view.
Ensure that vendor proposals and technical documents meet project specification.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 2 years experience in a mid-sized fabrication company
Related education from NAIT or SAIT and located in the Edmonton area
Proficiency in the use of Computer-Aided Engineering Software in an engineering design
Knowledge of various Instrumentation manufacturers
Skills in ACAD software would be an asset
Experience with HAZOP, SIL, LOPA Studies would be asset
Knowledge and experience applying codes and standards such as IEC, ATEX, CSA, NEC, ISA and API
Knowledge of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) would be an asset
Knowledge of various electrical components including MCCs, PLC panels, VFDs, electrical switch gear and motors
Understanding of the methods required to make all these systems function together in an operating plant
