Weare hiringonefull-time,permanent Senior Civil Engineer, Distribution Standards positionworking out of Edmonton, AB.
The Senior Engineer will lead the design, interpretation, and authentication of engineering standards and specifications for distribution systems. This role ensures all projects meet applicable codes and standards, while addressing safety, environmental, operational, and customer requirements. The successful candidate will oversee engineering activities, guide junior staff, and engage with customers impacted by EPCOR’s work.
This position may be eligible for EPCOR’s hybrid work program.
What you’d be responsible for
Lead and authenticate complex engineering designs and standards in civil, structural, and geotechnical disciplinesLead continuous improvement and Management of Change initiatives across engineering processesGuide stakeholder-level design reviews to ensure constructability and system compatibility, especially with operations and field teamsCollaborate across departments and with external stakeholders to align engineering practices and share best practicesEnsure compliance with regulatory codes (CSA, Alberta Building Code, Alberta Electrical Utility Code) and EPCOR standardsProvide field support and conduct material reviews and inspections during construction and maintenance activitiesMonitor performance metrics and drive improvements in design, quality and efficiencyMentor and coach engineers, designers, and technical staff; identify development needs and deliver targeted training programsRepresent EPCOR in external working groups and committees to influence industry standards and share mutual learningsWhat’s required to be successful
Degree in Civil Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, or a Diploma in Civil Engineering with Professional Licensee (P.L. Eng.) designation8+ years of progressive experience in civil/structural/geotechnical utility design, construction, and field supportAdvanced technical expertise in utility infrastructure including duct banks, manholes, vaults, poles, excavation, and aerial power distribution structuresGeotechnical knowledge focusing on open cut excavation, soil analysis, and shoring design for open cut excavationStrong knowledge of Alberta Electric Utility Code, CSA standards, and Occupational Health and Safety regulations (including Part 32 and OSHA 1926)Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Micro Station, ArcGIS, SAP
2000, STAAD.Pro, and Autodesk RobotExperience in designing, planning and executing new initiatives and implementing new processesDemonstrated ability to lead complex projects, manage budgets, solve highly technical problems, and manage cross-functional teamsExcellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills with a focus on continuous improvement and customer quality expectationsOther important facts about this job
