Position Overview

The Projects Rotating Equipment Specialist is responsible for managing rotating equipment deliverables and ensuring seamless information flow between projects and maintenance during the execution of capital projects. This role provides technical leadership, ensures compliance with standards, supports commissioning, and optimizes the long-term maintainability and reliability of rotating equipment assets.

You will be accountable for maintaining CMMS data (GSAP / SAP Blueprint), developing preventive maintenance strategies, creating BOMs, establishing spare parts requirements, and supporting RCM activities. The role includes providing technical coaching to project teams, supporting commissioning/start-up, and ensuring adherence to Shell’s engineering practices, guidelines, and assurance processes.


Key Responsibilities

Project & Technical Assurance

  • Provide rotating equipment input into the Minimum Technical Solution during SELECT and scope optimization during DEFINE.

  • Contribute to development of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), identify hold points, and perform assurance activities.

  • Witness critical steps/hold points as per the ITP and complete maintenance sign-off for Project Acceptance (PG-004).

  • Ensure rotating equipment scope complies with Shell engineering standards, practices, and governing codes.

Asset Information Management

  • Update CMMS (GSAP / SAP Blueprint) with PMs, BOMs, and equipment master data.

  • Develop and maintain Policies, Procedures, Practices, and Guidelines (PPP&Gs) for new equipment entering the asset base.

  • Create BOMs and define spare parts stocking strategies for new or modified equipment.

  • Manage post-commissioning spare parts and coordinate relocation to warehouse inventory.

Reliability & Maintenance Optimization

  • Support Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) by reviewing outputs and implementing PM strategies.

  • Participate in bad actor analysis and help shape long-term reliability improvement programs.

  • Lead the development of craft competency training related to rotating equipment.

Commissioning & Start-Up Support

  • Provide rotating equipment support during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities.

  • Review and develop commissioning procedures, ensuring best practices and compliance with API 686 requirements.

  • Conduct vendor shop inspections and witness testing as required by SPEP and DEP standards.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Mentor, support, and coach project teams on rotating equipment standards, maintenance readiness, and best practices.

  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders across engineering, projects, maintenance, supply chain, and vendors.

  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses.

  • Promote a culture of openness, safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • Red Seal Millwright or Mechanical Technologist.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years experience as a Technologist or Journeyman in rotating equipment maintenance, engineering, or reliability.

  • Strong knowledge of related codes, standards, and technologies, including API 686.

  • Experience in writing and reviewing commissioning procedures.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in GSAP and SAP Blueprint.

  • Diagnostic, troubleshooting, and analytical problem-solving skills.
