We are seeking a Temporary Full‑Time (1.0 FTE) Educational Assistant (EA) – Specialized Program for Forest Green School, Stony Plain, Alberta. The successful candidate will support students in a highly specialized behavioral program.

Educational Assistants II (EA II) assist teachers with many instructional and non‑instructional tasks in the classroom and with other school activities. EA II’s work as members of the school and student support teams. EA II’s meet PSD’s mandatory educational requirement of an Educational Assistant Certificate or comparable education.
EA II’s May- Work under the supervision of one teacher or several different teachers
- Work independently with students or in the classroom with the teacher
- Work with a particular special‑needs student or a group of students within a class or in a special program
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Perform clerical tasks in the classroom or school
The EA II provides routine and repetitive instructional support, follows an individually prescribed learning program, and assists one‑on‑one with students. The EA II records observations on anecdotal record sheets or data sheets and may provide personal care to students.
Instructional Support- Provide assistance in all curriculum areas – one‑on‑one or in small groups as directed by the teacher
- Help with organizing notebooks, timetables, agendas, and lockers
- scribe notes from board, read exams for students as required
- modify and adapt the program for individual students as directed by the classroom teacher
- assist in the implementation of Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals and adaptive devices
- assist students with computer access and various educational software packages
- provide assistance to communicate with peers and adults in the school (e.g. American Sign Language, assistive tech)
- apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students
- Under the direction of the teacher, observe, chart and monitor individual student progress and behaviour
- Assist the teacher in maintaining a safe and secure environment for both students and staff through de‑escalation strategies and non‑violent physical intervention techniques
- provide behavioural management assistance for students with behavioural disorders (implementing predetermined non‑aversive disciplinary methods and non‑violent crisis intervention techniques)
- deal with student behaviour and assist with classroom discipline
- assist students with walking, personal care and hygiene, food preparation, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- feeding assistance (e.g. spoon or tube feeding), lifting and handling medically fragile students
- operate assistive devices (e.g. insulin pumps, braces, dressing fasteners, seat‑belts)
- catheterization and respiratory or physiotherapy interventions
- administer medication as required; toileting and diapering for physically dependent students
- assist in exercising and adaptive physical education, fine and gross motor skills development, life‑skills management
- monitor feeding, tube feeding, breathing apparatuses, seizure management, and use oxygen if required
