As an intern, you’ll work alongside our experienced practitioners and with our clients and communities. This hands‑on experience will equip you with practical skills, build your network, and provide opportunities that set you up for success.
Your Opportunity
This is an On‑Site Architecture Student design role for the Summer (May‑August 2026). As a student you will be working within teams on various projects in an innovative and design‑oriented environment with close guidance and direction from a Senior Designer or Architect. Responsibilities will be diverse and may range from the preparation of design drawings, studies, research, presentation materials, models, and technical drawings.
Recent graduates are welcome to apply. Positions will be available in the Edmonton and Calgary Stantec offices.
Your
Key Responsibilities
Conduct basic interpretations of sketches, drawings, codes, building program and other similar material.
Support project team in development of design documentation.
Assist in the development of a design through sketches, physical models, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.
Utilize BIM or other technologies in development of three‑dimensional models of buildings and their components.
Assist in research of concepts, benchmarks, materials, typology, and precedents.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Passion for innovation and supporting a design‑focused architectural studio.
Collaborative, people‑person that thrives working in a team setting.
Basic knowledge of building construction systems, methods, materials, and industry associated standards is expected.
Basic understanding of all phases of architectural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
Basic knowledge and application of applicable building codes.
Ability to conduct space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in coordination with building program.
Ability to develop floor plans, elevations, wall sections, and details to a construction documentation level.
Ability to produce presentation renderings, diagrams, and massing models.
Knowledgeable about innovation in architecture, and actively tracks new trends in design.
Engage in creative and critical thought. Sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.
Interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material and translate them into a 3D model.
Requires an understanding of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Sketch Up, Rhino, Revit, Enscape and/or Lumion, and the Microsoft Office suite of apps.
Education and Experience
Currently pursuing a Masters degree in Architecture (M.Arch).
Previous professional experience (summer positions or other) is considered an asset.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency
In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
