Stargazing Tour Guide

Go Tekapo is looking for new Stargazing tour guides to join our team for the  summer season.

This will be a permanent fixed-term contract running from 1st November to 30th April. $30 per hour, 30 hours per week minimum.

Ideal candidates should have previous tourism experience specifically in leading tours. This experience can be substituted for a public speaking role.

Prior knowledge of astronomy or stargazing is desired but not essential as in‑house training is provided.

Your duties will include:

• To provide English language stargazing tours to groups of 10‑20 guests, teaching them the constellations, science and instructing them in the use of our telescopes.
• Take photographs of our guests with the night sky as a background; photography experience is not required but is desirable.
• Respond to customer enquiries either through phone calls or emails.
• Shuttle guests from our office to our stargazing locations. A full driver’s licence is essential. A New Zealand passenger licence is desirable.
• Manage our reservations and assist with the creation of social media content on cloudy nights.

Staff accommodation is limited but may be provided; otherwise we can assist you with finding suitable accommodation for your time with us. As stargazing is a weather‑dependent activity we require staff to be flexible with their working hours and may require staff to help out in other parts of the business if tours are not running.
