Location: Spruce GroveThompson Construction Group is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Estimator to join our team in Spruce Grove. This role is responsible for preparing detailed, accurate, and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil, earthworks, and industrial projects. The Senior Estimator will contribute to bid strategy, analyze project risks, collaborate with operations, and support continuous improvement within the estimating team.
Responsibilities:
Review tender documentation to determine scope, schedule requirements, and risk factorsDevelop accurate cost estimates including materials, equipment, labour, and subcontractor pricingCalculate production rates, crew compositions, cycle times, haul profiles, and operational durations based on site conditions and resource availabilityPerform detailed quantity take-offs and quantity reconciliationSolicit, review, and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations; ensure pricing coverage and scope compliancePrepare construction schedules, resource histograms, and supporting documentation as part of bid submissionsLead the preparation and assembly of complete tender packages for senior management review and authorizationMaintain accountability for the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of assigned estimatesTrack tender bulletins/addenda, clarifications, and submission requirementsAttend client pre-bid, post-bid, and project handover/start-up meetings as requiredCoordinate with project and field teams post-award to support execution planning, risk mitigation, and turnover documentationSupport continuous improvement of estimating systems, processes, and historical cost dataMentor and support junior estimating team members as requiredQualifications:
Minimum 10+ years of relevant estimating and/or project management experience in earthworks, heavy civil, industrial, and/or oil & gas projectsDiploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related disciplineStrong understanding of earthworks production, equipment capabilities, and construction methodologiesAdvanced computer proficiency including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Primavera, and industry estimating software (HCSS Heavy Bid, B2W, or similar)Strong technical writing, analytical, and financial skillsExcellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and under deadlinesDemonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environmentThe above statements describe the general nature and responsibilities of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties or skills required.
