The Position

HSAA is seeking three (3) motivated and enthusiastic Summer Students who are passionate about contributing to positive change. These temporary, full‑time positions are based in our Edmonton office and provide a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in policy development, finance, and organizational operations. The term of employment is up to four (4) months, ending on or before August 22, 2026.

These in‑scope roles support multiple departments across the organization. Students will develop job‑ready skills, gain practical workplace experience, and work alongside industry professionals who are committed to mentoring and supporting their growth.

Policy Development
  • Conduct research and basic analysis to support policy recommendations.
  • Research, draft, and review policy and processes documents and recommendations.
Accounting/Finance
  • Map and document department‑wide finance processes, helping to create clear workflows and reference materials for team use.
  • Identify potential gaps in existing policies and internal controls in completing the mapping and documentation of current processes and suggest enhancements for greater efficiency and compliance.
  • Participate in the drafting and review of policies and internal controls, contributing to the development of finance‑related guidelines and procedures.
  • Support the transition of existing digital filing system to updated file and folder naming system, and the archiving of legacy/inactive digital files.
  • Support the digital and physical filing of financial documents, including invoices, receipts, and reports.
Office Administration
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, memoranda, schedules, and other documentation while maintaining accurate electronic and hard copy filing systems.
  • Provide general administrative support across departments, including meeting coordination, internal communications, and records management.
  • Assist with organizing workshops, conferences, and other internal and external initiatives as required.
  • Contribute to special projects and cross‑functional initiatives to support overall organizational operations.
What You Bring
  • Enrolled in a post‑secondary program leading to a degree or diploma in Business, Public Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Preferably one (1) year of experience in an office environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform a wide variety of administrative duties.
  • Ability to work independently within a team‑based environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate tactfully, courteously, and clearly.
  • Dependable and hardworking.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to carry out tasks with minimal supervision.
