PositionInformation
Works collaboratively with certificated staff in special education classrooms or other learning environments, assists with a variety of instructional support and supervision duties of students who are in need of academic assistance and have learning, communication, physical, behavioral or emotional disabilities; prepares educational materials; monitors students' progress, behavior, and safety. Performs routine clerical tasks to support teachers and other district staff.
Performs work that may be physically hazardous or requires exceptional physical exertion or requires working in disagreeable conditions for a majority of time.

Special Calendar (actual number of paid work days depends on start date and schedule)
This position is non-continuing for the school year only. Typically, non-continuing assignments fill a variety of temporary vacancies to help the school district meet a short-term work demand. This work assignment expires on the end date of employment and there is no reasonable assurance for work after the end date. An employee's total work hours and the designated beginning and ending times may vary.

Required QualificationsEducation and Experience:
- Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
- In addition, a para educator must meet one of the following:
- Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
- Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
- Completed an apprenticeship as a para educator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
- Received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments:
- ETS Para Pro Assessment
- Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment
- Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training Program
Possession of valid First Aid and CPR Certifications or willingness to acquire depending on job assignment. Certification of de-escalation and physical restraint training is required for all employees who work in a self-contained classroom.
Additional Requirements- Successful candidates are required to complete mandatory, in-person training/orientation prior to their official start date.
- Previous experience working with students in an educational setting and/or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences.
- Training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity.
The Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) provides access to health care services and retirement packages. Eligibility for retirement at the time of hire is determined by employees who work at least 3.50 hours per day in a continuing position.
