Clean and maintain all buildings and grounds in a safe and professional manner in order to provide positive educational experiences.
Evaluated by: Immediate Supervisor(s) in collaboration with Custodian Management and Site Administration.
Salary: Salary is dependent upon previous similar experience according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Work EnvironmentInside Edmond Public School District facilities, outdoors during all types of weather and occasionally on roof tops and ledges. Custodians are in regular contact with students, the general public and other EPS personnel.
Job RequirementsEducation, General Aptitudes and
Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), including basic math. Able to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Able to read and comprehend procedures and regulations. Able to organize and plan effectively. Preference is given to those with 1 year custodial, floor care and/or general maintenance experience. Participate in mandatory training.
Physical Demands:
The employee is regularly required to stand or walk for long periods of time, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, balance, climb, see, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms fully extended, lift and/or move up to 50 lbs, and work at heights up to 35 feet.
Evaluation and Training:
This position is subject to evaluations and mandatory training.
Floor care including vacuum, buff, burnish, strip and carpet care. Clean restrooms, empty trash. Maintain a clean and orderly custodial closet and cart. Submit maintenance work requests to supervisor in a timely manner. Satisfactorily complete the tasks of each specialist duty.
Secure/Open facilities as needed. Monitor and report inappropriate activity on premises.
Efficiently mow, edge, and weed-eat. Pick up trash daily and empty outside trash containers as assigned. Remove snow and/or ice as needed.
Exercise cost control. Properly use and maintain department equipment to highest standards. Report any needs for maintenance and repair in a timely manner.
Help maintain and facilitate all aspects of the Energy Management program within the building, including scheduled shut downs and prescribed conservation settings.
- Regulatory: Complies with OSHA, Federal, State, and Local Policies, Procedures & Regulations. Attend and participate in mandatory training programs such as Asbestos, Blood-borne Pathogens, FERPA and Right-to-Know; is able to describe these guidelines. Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
- Departmental: Complies with District and Departmental Policies and Procedures. Sustain a safe environment. Workplace related injuries are documented within policy time frame. Follow instructional and warning labels on chemical containers. Adhere to proper chemical mixing ratios and proper use of dispensing systems.
- Efficiency: Perform daily walk-through inspection of assigned area. Complete assigned tasks daily in a neat and timely manner. Complete assignments with little or no supervision. Readily accept other duties as assigned.
- Communication: Interact with staff, students, parents and community in a positive and professional manner. Actively listen to input and concerns. Clearly express facts and ideas. Work as a team player; cooperate with others. Able to give and receive directions. Seek assistance and/or clarification as needed. Follow chain of command if issues arise.
- Integrity: Behave in an ethical way toward all people for all situations. Keep confidential information confidential. Accept responsibility to correct problems and concerns.
- Appearance and Attendance: Have satisfactory attendance and punctuality. Monitor time and attendance records for accuracy. Exhibit satisfactory hygiene and attire. Make every effort to be at work on inclement weather days.
