The Orthopedic Technician, while under the supervision of the physician/surgeon, assists in rendering care and providing services to the orthopedic patient. The Orthopedic Technician is a specifically trained allied health individual in the field of orthopedic medicine.

• Education:
  
  High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
• Licensure:
  None
• Experience:
  
  Minimum 2 years as orthopedic technician, unless certified as an OTC by the National Board of Certification of Orthopedic Technologists. Previous physician office experience.
• Certifications:
  
  None
• Eligible for staff privileges at hospitals where physician/surgeons work.
• Knowledge of physiology, anatomy and medical terminology.
• Competency in applying casts and splints and surgical technology.

• Education:
  
  Post‑secondary certificate or associate's degree as orthopedic technician from a technology program.
• Licensure:
  None
• Experience:
  
  3+ years of orthopedic experience including casting, bracing, splinting, suture removal, pin removal, dressing changes and wound care.
• Certifications:
  
  Certified as an OTC by the National Board of Certification.
