Position Overview

This is a Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) student clerical position in which the student will perform customer service‑related duties at the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame Museum.

Hours per Week
  • 16–20 hours per week.
  • 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm, Monday–Thursday or Monday–Friday.

Department Specific Job Functions

The student worker will open the museum, prepare it for visitors, and greet visitors upon arrival. The student will work the front desk while maintaining a positive outlook toward journalism, its history, and its importance in Oklahoma today and in the past.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half‑time. Half‑time enrollment is 5 credit hours for graduates and 6 for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full‑time (9 for graduates, 12 for undergraduates).

Summer Semester: For regular student positions, a minimum of 3 credit hours is required. For FWSP positions, undergraduates must enroll in at least 6 credit hours; graduates, at least
5. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes to work during the summer, subject to FICA tax requirements.

Enrollment Exception: If a student’s remaining credit hours needed to graduate are less than the minimum enrollment requirement, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor stating the number of remaining credit hours and anticipated graduation date, and submit it to Human Resources.

FWSP Requirements

To be considered for FWSP employment, the student must be awarded work study through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. The summer FWSP award is a separate application process from the fall/spring award. Enrollment requirements for FWSP are the same each semester: undergraduates must enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours; graduates, 5 credit hours. If a student is in their final semester and their remaining credit hours are less than the minimum, a letter from the Academic Advisor is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

The individual should have an interest in history and be willing to greet visitors to the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame Museum. The role is desk‑oriented, but the student will be required to open the museum, prepare it for visitors, and greet them upon arrival. The student will receive orientation and must have a working knowledge of the museum and its content to answer visitor questions.

The student should be familiar with the First Amendment and able to guide visitors through the museum. Maintaining a positive outlook toward journalism, its history, and its importance in Oklahoma is essential.
