About this PositionThe Sherman School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Plant and Soil Microbiome with responsibilities in research, teaching, and extension. The successful candidate will establish a dynamic, externally funded research program focused on plant-associated and soil microbial communities, as well as their roles in enhancing soil health, improving crop productivity, and promoting agroeco-system resilience.
Priority areas include rhizosphere interactions, microbial ecology, and the sustainable application of the microbiome in agriculture.
- Conduct independent and collaborative research using advanced techniques (e.g., metagenomics, microbial culturing); publish in peer-reviewed journals; mentor students.
- Teach courses such as Soil Microbiology and Plant–Microbe Interactions; develop curricula and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Lead outreach activities that translate research into actionable practices for farmers and stakeholders, including workshops, field days, and extension publications.
- Ph.D. in Soil Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or a related field (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- Record of peer-reviewed publications
