Overview
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Central Oklahoma invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in statistics or applied mathematics starting August 3, 2026. The position involves teaching, advising, mentoring students, evaluating student performance, and maintaining department and student records in accordance with university policies. The successful candidate will adhere to the university's educational philosophy, collaborate with colleagues and professional peers, and engage in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.
This is a full-time, tenure-track position.
The College of Mathematics and Science currently has 127 full-time and over 70 part-time faculty in six academic departments and the School of Engineering. The College serves more than 3,300 undergraduate students in 30 majors and offers graduate programs in Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Applied Mathematical Science, Engineering Physics, and Nursing. Accreditation/certification is held by ABET, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the American Board of Funeral Service Education, and the American Chemical Society.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Central Oklahoma is committed to undergraduate and graduate education through transformative learning and research. The department seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in statistics or applied mathematics who is committed to innovative and inclusive teaching and collaborative, student-centered research. Duties include teaching day and evening classes, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, engaging in scholarly activities, and providing service.
Faculty must be willing to teach in a variety of instructional formats (in-person, hybrid, online) as needed. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
An earned doctorate in Statistics or Applied Mathematics or a related field from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution is required (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). University teaching experience is required. ABD applicants will be considered, but the Ph.D. must be completed by August 1, 2026. Demonstrable oral and written communication skills are required.
Note:
If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor until completion of the doctorate.
Previous postdoctoral experience and/or a strong publication record.
