St. John the Baptist Catholic Church is seeking a coordinator of youth ministry to lead young people, grades six-12, in becoming active and intentional disciples of Jesus Christ. Will work collaboratively and under the direction of the priest and director of mission, in addition to working with parents, Youth Advisory Council, core teams, parish staff and volunteers. Bachelor’s degree; degree in theology, religious education, or related field preferred.
Organizational skills, including ability to communicate well both orally and written; time management, delegation, planning, and budgeting. Successful completion of Safe and Sacred. Description
The Coordinator of Youth Ministry works collaboratively with and under the direction of the Pastor and the Director of Mission to lead young people, grades 6-12 in becoming active and intentional disciples of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church.
The coordinator will work with parents to support their duty to train their children in the practice of the faith and to bring them up to keep God’s commandments as Jesus taught us, by loving God and our neighbor.
The coordinator will exercise judgment within the scope of the position, while keeping in collaboration with the Pastor, Director of Mission, Youth Advisory Council, Core Teams, members of the parish staff and volunteers.
The coordinator will develop and implement a process of evangelization and discipleship and will recruit, form, and shepherd adult leaders and parents to accompany the youth in their faith.
Duties
Develop programs for middle school and high school students in line with the teachings of the Catholic Church in the areas of evangelization, catechesis, doctrine, moral life, liturgy and sacraments, Catholic leadership development, and prayer that are commensurate with parish and archdiocesan guidelines.Lead others to Christ by example rooted in the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church.Receive specific catechetical formation and certification through approved diocesan process.Provide sound resource materials for spiritual enrichment to youth and parents.Network with other youth ministry leaders both on archdiocesan and national levels.Plan, develop, and implement catechetical programs and social opportunities for the youth of the parish to help them develop their Catholic identity and establish peer relationships within the parish community.Plan, develop, and implement a schedule of service activities grounded in Catholic Social Teaching to foster awareness of the needs of others.Promote the youth ministry within the parish.Create and manage all social media accounts associated with youth ministry. Develop ways to evangelize using technology.Oversee and supervise all youth ministry volunteers.Invite, form, motivate, evaluate, and promote formation of adult and youth leaders.Obtain parental support and consent for activities.Provide supervisor with program activity reports and evaluations.Manage annual budget.Serve as member of the parish and participate in staff meetings, team meetings, prayer and educational days.Maintain current certifications and engage in on‑going formation.Establish a collaborative relationship with parents and families in the parish, school and faith formation programs, developing the youth ministry program as one that recognizes, supports, and equips parents as primary formators of the faith.Qualities
Spirit-filled and practicing member of the Roman Catholic Church.Intentional disciple who has been made new through an encounter with the Lord; and practices the four disciplines of Scripture, sacraments, community, and prayer.Organizational skills, including ability to communicate well both orally and written; time management, delegation, planning, and budgeting.Ability to work with youth and adults.Successful completion of Safe and Sacred.Bachelor’s degree; degree in theology, religious education, or related field preferred.Knowledge of adolescent and pre-teen spiritual and personal development.Good proficiency in Microsoft Office Software.Knowledge of Renewing the Vision, National Directory for Catechesis.Public speaking experience.Ability to change and be flexible in high‑paced environments.Working Conditions
