Forklift Operator
Work Location: 96 Executive Avenue Edison, New Jersey USA
Duration: 6 weeks
Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (EST)
Pay Rate: XX26
Position Purpose
The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently moving products within the warehouse. This role requires a strong understanding of forklift operation, load handling, productivity standards, and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
- Report to the shipping office at the start of each shift to receive daily assignments, vehicle inspection sheets, and replenishment discrepancy sheets.
- Inspect assigned forklift and complete the required inspection documentation.
- Replenish pick slots using the View Request screen; if no requests exist, use the Manual Replenish screen to fill low or empty slots.
- Perform knockdowns for selectors as needed.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts and log any discrepancies.
- Verify that correct products are placed in the appropriate pick locations.
- Remove shrink wrap from knockdowns and dispose of materials properly.
- Remove empty pallets from pick locations and aisles; separate good, bad, and blue pallets and stage them appropriately.
- Keep the work area clean and free of debris.
- Operate the forklift in a safe and efficient manner at all times.
- Park and recharge forklift in the designated area at shift end.
- Immediately report safety concerns or policy violations to a lead, supervisor, or manager.
- Perform duties in compliance with HACCP and SQF policies as applicable.
Education/Certification
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Understanding of warehouse safety guidelines.
- Knowledge of Bakco functions and RF scanning systems.
- Warehouse/operations experience preferred, but not required.
- Understanding of overall warehouse processes for broader operational awareness.
- Ability to follow simple one- or two-step instructions and handle routine standardized situations.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), including use of units such as inches, feet, pounds, and money.
- Ability to read and communicate in English.
- Balancing on narrow, slippery, or moving surfaces.
- Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking for extended periods.
- Pushing, pulling, lifting using upper body and back muscles.
- Lifting requirements: Up to 75 lbs. occasionally; 40 lbs. frequently; 20 lbs. constantly.
- Grasping and repetitive motions with hands, wrists, and fingers.
- Talking and hearing for communication of detailed instructions.
- Visual abilities: Fine visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
- Exposure to changing temperature environments, including freezers or cold rooms.
