Description
The Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This position focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. It involves directing and overseeing care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination. The nurse coordinates patient care and unit activities among peers, physicians, and support services.
Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing practices based on the latest evidence-based research, policies, and standards of care to ensure safe and individualized patient care.
- Perform comprehensive, age- and disease-specific assessments and data collection.
- Recognize changes in patient and diagnostic status.
- Identify educational needs based on age, disease, and cultural differences.
- Develop and coordinate a patient/family-centered plan of care with goals and expected outcomes.
- Communicate and implement the care plan, providing ongoing updates to the patient, family, and healthcare team.
- Provide or coordinate patient and family education, ensuring understanding.
- Document assessments, care plans, interventions, and evaluations electronically in real-time.
- Administer medications safely using advanced bar-scanning and documentation technologies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary discharge planning to ensure safe transition of care.
- Evaluate progress towards outcomes and adjust interventions as needed.
- Use critical thinking to respond to changes in patient condition and unexpected responses to care.
- Address ethical issues and opportunities to improve patient satisfaction.
- Maintain necessary competencies, certifications, and continuing education.
- Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses.
- Lift a minimum of 35 lbs., push and pull at least 10 lbs., and stand for at least 6 hours daily.
- Follow organizational standards and behaviors.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Nursing or diploma; BSN in progress or willing to obtain within three years.
- Six months of relevant nursing experience or active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt, and work in a team-oriented, patient-focused environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- National certification in area of specialty (preferred when eligible).
Licenses and Certifications
- NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
- BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
