REGISTERED NURSE – OPERATING ROOM – PER DIEM DAYS

Location:

JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute, Edison, New Jersey – Part‑time, per diem, day shift.

The Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This role focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of an interdisciplinary team to complex patients, and directing care through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination. The RN coordinates patient care/unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.

• Assessment
  • Collects comprehensive data related to the patient’s health or situation.
  • Performs age‑ and disease‑specific assessment/data collection independently.
  • Recognizes clinical and diagnostic status changes.
  • Identifies variables in patient/family education needs.
• Plan
  • Develops a care plan with strategies and interventions.
  • Formulates age‑ and disease‑specific objectives.
  • Coordinates a patient‑facing, prioritized, continuum of care plan.
• Implementation
  • Communicates, coordinates, and implements the care plan.
  • Provides ongoing communication with patient/family, peers, and team.
  • Administers age‑ and disease‑specific care promptly.
  • Coordinates patient/family education and ensures understanding.
  • Documents events and follows protocols.
  • Delivers nursing care that reflects patient needs, advocacy, and evidence‑based practice.
  • Performs continuous point‑of‑care electronic documentation.
  • Administers medication using bar‑scanning and documentation technologies.
  • Coordinates multidisciplinary discharge for safe transition.
• Evaluation
  • Assesses progress toward outcomes.
  • Uses critical thinking skills to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Initiates interventions when patient condition changes unexpectedly.

• Identifies ethical issues and reports them.
• Recognizes opportunities to improve patient satisfaction.
• Maintains competencies, certifications, and continuing education required by accreditation or licensing.
• Adheres to the American Nurses Association Code and Hospital‑specific standards.
• Physically lifts at least 35 lbs., pushes/pulls 10 lbs., and stands for at least 6 hours per day.
• Adheres to HMH Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
• Performs other duties or projects as assigned.

• Associate in Nursing or diploma in Nursing (minimum).
• BSN in progress or willing to acquire within 3 years (for hires after Dec 2019). SF specific union requirements may apply.
• At least 6 months of relevant nursing experience or active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health’s Nurse Residency Program.
• Ability to learn quickly, adapt, work collaboratively, and passionately deliver high‑quality care.

• National certification in specialty area, when eligible.

• Valid Registered Nurse license to work at the assigned HMH location by hire date.
• BLS/CPR certification by the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.

Minimum rate of $45.14 hourly. The posted rate is an estimate of the minimum base pay in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the total rewards package.
