Sterile Processing Technician - Full Time

The certified Sterile Processing Technician within the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) performs all tasks associated with the processing of surgical instruments and medical devices including cleaning, decontamination, assembly, sterilization/high‑level disinfection; monitoring environmental conditions, sterilization processes, and HLD processes; assembly and dispatching of case carts and emergency carts; and inventory and ordering of SPD supplies.
Responsibilities- Assists in processing of instruments, surgical trays, and surgical case carts. Performs duties in the Processing area. Maintains knowledge of instruments and trays and can assemble trays and sets as detailed on set layout sheets. Can operate correctly all machinery associated with the Decontamination and Processing area and identify problems that affect the quality of the product produced.
- Checks expiration dates on sterile items and takes appropriate action if outdated items are discovered.
- Demonstrates proper phone etiquette using proper procedure with callers on the business unit and OR Hotline phones in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Makes daily soil rounds of the medical units, visiting all required areas and returns all items to SPD for processing.
- Performs functions in the Decontamination area, cleaning instruments, trays and carts, and controls the workflow independently.
- Records all processed loads and accurately enters information into required record books, logs biological indicators, and records outcomes of testing.
- Maintains SPD department stock, putting away supplies and rotating stock as needed.
- Provides daily operations leadership in the Supervisor’s or Coordinator’s absence, appropriately assigning team members and ensuring patient care standards.
- Operates steam and Sterrad sterilization equipment in compliance with manufacturer instructions, policies, procedures, and Infection Prevention.
- Lifts a minimum of 30 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands for the duration of the shift.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent program.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
- Experience with STERRAD sterilization.
- Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - CBSPD or Sterile Processing Certification
- National Certification:
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPDT).
Lifts a minimum of 30 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands for the duration of the shift.
CompensationMinimum rate of $22.77 per hour.
