- Provide patient care, based on physical, psychosocial, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned service
- Provide for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions
- Ongoing communication with patients, nursing colleagues and other health care team members regarding patient status and rendered care
- Take self-directed or self-motivated initiative to do more than is expected or required in the job, acting before being required to by events, improving job performance and/or creating new opportunities
- Participate in interdisciplinary collaboration of the patient s plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning and continuum of care
- Participate in Unit/Department Performance Improvement activities
- Welcomes patients and checks for proper identification bracelets
- Prepares the patient for assessment/admission, physical examination and procedures
- Recognizes and responds to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to age of patients on the unit
- Obtains clinical data, monitors vital signs, and documents findings in patient records; notifies RN of abnormal results
- Draws intravenous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric patients using proper aseptic collection techniques; labels and processes specimens to expedite throughput
- Performs venipuncture for laboratory tests
- Follows through with collecting, labeling, and transporting specimens, ensuring proper labeling and timely delivery
- Performs EKG for patients as directed
- Maintains equipment, code cart, O2, and other emergency equipment as directed
- Applies bandages, slings, compression boots and hypothermia blankets as directed by RN
- Assists in transport of patients within departments/units
- Assists with meals and feeding as needed
- Checks inventory and restocks as directed
- Prepares rooms for admission and provides direct hygiene and comfort care (bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, incontinent care, bed making)
- Assists with dressing and belongings, and monitors return of clothing to family
- Performs and documents glucose finger sticks and collects other specimens as directed
- Provides post mortem care
- Obtains and documents patient weights and records intake and output
- Maintains a safe patient environment by responding to call lights and communicating changes in condition to the RN
- Delivers care tailored to patient population needs (age, culture, language, impairments) and communicates appropriately with patients and caregivers
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned
- Adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Completion of one of the following:
- Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant or Patient Care Technician program, or
- Fundamentals of Nursing program from an accredited school of nursing, or
- HMH PCT Apprenticeship Program, or
- Equivalent medical background such as EMT, Home Health Aide, CMA, MA, PCT, Nursing Assistant
Note:
Candidates not completing a program but meeting other requirements may be considered for the HMH PCT Apprentice Program. If selected, the candidate will be hired as a PCT Apprentice and may transfer to the Patient Care Technician role after successful completion of the program.
- Ability to learn quickly, adaptability to changing patient needs, accountability, teamwork, and commitment to ongoing education
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support for Health Care Providers Certification within 60 days of hire
- Phlebotomy and EKG/vital signs experience or certification preferred
- At least 1 year PCT or CNA experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred or eligible for the HMH PCT apprentice program
- Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant or Patient Care Technician who has completed a PCT program including Phlebotomy, EKG, and nursing assistant coursework

Compensation- Minimum rate of $20.32 hourly
