The patient transporter is directly responsible for the courteous, safe and timely movement of patients from one patient care area to another within the Medical Center. This includes the cooperative effort, with nursing personnel to physically move the patient between the bed and mode of transportation (i.e. wheelchair, stretcher, etc.).
Responsibilities- Moves patients between their beds on a stretcher or wheelchair according to guidelines and procedures. Uses the two hospital patient identifiers (name and date of birth) verbally and by visual checking of the patient . Pays careful attention to the IV bag and other assistive devices when moving the patient. Adheres to infection and safety practices. Ensures confidentiality and privacy.
- Collaborates with nursing staff to ensure appropriate movement and transport of patients.
- Handles and delivers patient charts according to hospital and department policies.
- Deliver and pick up clean and dirty instruments to and from SPD. Deliver specimens or pick up required items from Laboratory/Pathology, Radiology and Medical Records. Deliver patient belongings to appropriate clinical area as directed by the supervisor.
- Check package integrity, rotate stock inventory according to expiration date and ensure that floor-to-ceiling clearances are maintained. Transport sterile supplies in a covered transport cart. Stock blankets and fluid warmers.
- During down times maintain O2 stock by safely collecting and storing 02 per hospital rooms. At the direction of the charge nurse stock patient rooms according to established PAR levels, clean unoccupied stretchers, pick up supplies/equipment as requested.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Entry-level position; on-the-job training provided by Team Leader and Patient Transport staff.
- Must be able to support and push patients ranging from 100 lbs to 300+ lbs. Must be able to work with the paging system that allows the facility to track patient movement and transport staff.
- Experience in patient transport, medical experience and patient contact preferred.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
In addition to our compensation for full-time and part-time (20+ hours/week) job positions, HMH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits. Minimum rate of $17.32 hourly.
