Tenancy Support Officer (RP0169)

Starting salary £34,431 pro rata with progression to £37,464 pro rata through annual increments subject to satisfactory service (inclusive of outer fringe allowance). Fixed Term until end September 2026, 30 hours per week over 4 days (hybrid).

At Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, we are looking for a dedicated and empathetic individual to join our Neighbourhood Management Service. You will be the person who steps in to provide stability, guidance, and practical support to help them sustain their tenancy and look forward to a brighter future.

The Role

Working as part of a busy Neighbourhood Management Service across several locations, you will be instrumental in helping families and vulnerable individuals while they reside in the Council’s housing accommodation. You will act as a key worker, assisting residents with the skills and knowledge they need to maintain their independence.

Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Person-Centred Support:
    Using your knowledge, flexibility, and skills to deal with people from different backgrounds and situations, helping them navigate the areas they are struggling with.
  • Safeguarding:
    Keeping vulnerable people safe is at the heart of our service. You will need a sound understanding of safeguarding principles and how to apply them.
  • Multi-Agency Working:
    Referring to and liaising with partner organisations and actively participating in statutory and multi-agency case meetings such as professionals’ meetings and child protection conferences.
  • Income Maximisation:
    Assisting residents with maintaining their rent payments, making claims for welfare benefits, and ensuring they are receiving all the financial support available to them.
About you

The successful candidate will be someone with a true customer focus and a commitment to delivering outstanding results. You don't need to have all the answers immediately, but you need the drive to find solutions.

  • A Problem Solver:
    Someone who enjoys assisting others and can find creative solutions to complex situations.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    Strong working knowledge of welfare benefits, particularly the processes and entitlements for Housing Benefit.
  • A Collaborative Spirit:
    Ability to work with partners across the council and external agencies to provide a wraparound service for residents.
  • Resilience and Empathy:
    The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations, always treating our residents with dignity and respect.

This role is hybrid working. You will be required to attend the office a minimum of two days a week, and when service needs requires. This role includes frequent travel around the borough therefore a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are an essential requirement.
