Overview
Job Title: Electrical Maintenance Technician –
Location: Port of Leith, Forth Ports Ltd.
Hours:
37.5hr contract – Monday-Friday 07:00-15:00 (alternative patterns considered). Salary: £37,040 + OTE. Overtime: 2x rate on weekends (10pm Friday to 6am Monday); 1.5x rate midweek.
The Role
In this role, you will be responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining all plant equipment and electrical systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. The position plays a key part in minimising equipment downtime, supporting operational teams, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities- Maintenance, repair and fault finding of electrical systems within the Port; including forklift trucks, ship to shore cranes, industrial plant, lock date infrastructure and commercial vehicles
- Installation and maintenance of LV electrical distribution systems, lighting systems and control circuits in both industrial and commercial areas of the port
- Undertaking training as an Authorised Person for operating and maintaining HV distribution equipment
- Developing an in depth working knowledge of plant equipment and associated drawings in order to minimise downtime when repairs are required
- Escalating any equipment damage to Supervisory staff and liaise with operational staff to inform of timescales for repairs
- Implementing best practice maintenance techniques to improve reliability and efficiency
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings to ensure equipment is maintained for efficient plant operation
We are seeking a motivated and reliable individual who takes pride in delivering high-quality work and maintaining the highest standards of safety. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and a proactive approach to minimising downtime. As the role supports operational continuity, flexibility is key – you should be willing to work overtime when required and be happy to participate in an on-call rota to respond to urgent needs.
QualificationsAnd Skills
- Served a formal recognised electrical apprenticeship
- Previous experience of working within an industrialised environment is advantageous but not essential
- Ideally will have a working knowledge of AC/DC control systems, PLC’s and LV distribution
- Experience of working on mobile plant would be desirable but not essential
- Shows strong initiative in managing tasks independently and driving work forward
- Confident communicator and be able to develop good working relationships with all stakeholders across the business
- As our working environment comprises quaysides, warehouses and other Port buildings therefore the ability to work at height, in confined spaces and in an outdoors environment is essential
- Full UK driving licence
- Full right to work in the UK
