OverviewThe post will be the research fellow for the established Clinical Infection Research Group (CIRG), a collaborative organisation that builds, supports and facilitates infection research in Edinburgh. CIRG brings together researchers from NHS Lothian, the University of Edinburgh and partners in academia and industry both nationally and internationally.
The fellow will be based in the Regional Infectious Disease Unit (RIDU) for the 12‑month period at Western General Hospital and will replace an existing research fellow post. The majority of the research work will be carried out in RIDU with a smaller proportion of time spent at the New Royal Infirmary, Little France and St Johns Hospital, Livingston.
ResponsibilitiesThe research fellow will be responsible for the oversight of the clinical aspect of infectious diseases studies in NHS Lothian, including optimising care of patients with a wide range of infections such as HIV, Influenza, COVID‑19 and a broad spectrum of bacterial pathogens.
The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of clinical research trials: screening, recruiting and consenting research study participants, and providing clinical review for any adverse events in participants. CIRG offers a wide base of Principal Investigators with a broad range of research areas, giving the fellow opportunity for self‑direction and development of work related to their interests. Taking on a sub‑PI role and contributing to the writing of research articles will be encouraged.
The fellow will work alongside highly experienced research nurses in CIRG and the Clinical Research Facility.
The post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
