Overview
We are seeking a trustee with marketing experience to help grow our reach and raise our profile across Scotland’s charity and public sectors, helping shape strategy and strengthen governance so more disabled people and carers find the support they need.
What difference will you make?
You will add experienced, strategic oversight to a small working team of five, helping us build a clearer, more consistent marketing approach that supports our mission. At the moment, marketing is overseen by our Chief Officer and carried out by a team member with the support of a volunteer. Your input will help us move from "doing what we can" to working from an agreed strategy with clearer priorities, stronger messaging and more effective use of limited time and resources.
Your contribution will help us expand our reach and improve our profile across Scotland, including within the charity and public sectors. Most importantly, it will help more disabled people and carers find us and use our services whether they’re digitally confident, need information in accessible formats or are digitally excluded and rely on offline routes and local connections.
With your guidance, we can strengthen how we communicate what we do (and why it matters), grow awareness of our helpline, information guides, Scottish Disability Directory and training and build more effective partnerships and referral pathways - particularly for people in remote and rural communities. In practical terms, your involvement can help us focus our efforts, improve our presence online and offline and make sure our communications reach the people who need them most.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking for a marketing-focused trustee who can help us strengthen and professionalise our marketing approach, so more disabled people, carers and professionals across Scotland can find and use our services. You don’t need previous trustee experience. We provide induction, support and encourage trustee training.
Most important qualities
- Strategic thinking able to step back, see the bigger picture and help shape a clear, realistic marketing direction that fits a small organisation.
- Collaborative and supportive; comfortable working with a small staff team and fellow trustees, offering constructive challenge and encouragement.
- Commitment to our cause motivated by improving access to reliable disability information and support and helping us reach the people who need it most.
Experience And Skills We’d Value
- Developing or overseeing marketing strategies and priorities
- Strengthening an organisation’s profile, reputation and messaging
- Planning and improving digital communications (for example, website or online content)
- Building partnerships and networks that improve awareness and referrals
- Knowledge of Word Press, SEO, Google optimisation and digital accessibility
- Creative problem solving to reach digitally excluded people in an increasingly "digital first" society
Awareness of charity/public sector in Scotland is preferred but not essential.
Lived Experience
We particularly welcome trustees who have lived experience of disability as this perspective helps keep our work grounded in what people actually need and reinforces our expertise as a Disabled People's Organisation.
Diversity and representation
Our current Board is entirely women. To broaden the diversity of our Board, we especially encourage applications from applicants of genders currently under-represented at Board level.
We are committed to fair and inclusive recruitment. All applicants will be considered equally on their ability to meet the role requirements. The welcome we extend to people with lived experience and under-represented groups is to broaden perspectives, diversity of experience and improve access, not to exclude others.
What will you be doing?
Our Board is looking for a marketing focused trustee who can take a lead role in strengthening how we communicate and grow our reach across Scotland. We’re a small, friendly organisation delivering a helpline, information guides, the Scottish Disability Services Directory and training, and we want to ensure more disabled people, carers and professionals can find and…
