The Role
This is an exceptional opportunity to join our market‑leading Private Client team in Edinburgh, working closely with Partners Alasdair Johnstone and Laura Murray, as well as other senior specialists across the department. The role offers the chance to work at the heart of our Family Office practice, advising some of Scotland’s most prominent landed estate families and multigenerational high‑net‑worth clients. You will gain hands‑on experience delivering sophisticated, long‑term advisory services across wealth, succession, and asset protection strategies.
We will also fully support you through the STEP qualification as part of your professional development.
Key ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for advising on
- Supporting the delivery of holistic family office services — coordinating advice across legal, tax, investment, philanthropic and governance matters for leading estate family groups.
- Providing comprehensive succession planning, asset protection and tax structuring advice tailored to complex family wealth arrangements.
- Drafting and advising on trusts of all types, including ongoing trust administration, governance, compliance, and trust wind‑ups.
- Meeting clients and advising on the preparation, drafting and execution of wills and powers of attorney.
- Exposure to high‑value executry administration involving substantial rural, business, and investment assets.
- Contributing to department‑wide business development initiatives and playing an active role in strengthening client relationships.
- Assisting with knowledge management and participating in the development of innovative technical and digital solutions for our major private clients.
- 2 – 5 years PQE, with a strong interest in private client work
- A proactive approach to problem‑solving and strong client care skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging directly with high‑profile clients and professional advisers.
