Job Description

Infrastructure Projects Lawyer – 4-6 years PQE

Edinburgh / Glasgow

Brief

We are currently looking to recruit a talented Infrastructure Projects lawyer with 4-6 years PQE to join our expanding Projects Team in either our Edinburgh or Glasgow office.

Our Team

Leveraging a comprehensive network that spans Europe, Africa, The Gulf and Asia Pacific, the projects practice at Pinsent Masons LLP offers specialists in all of the key sub-sectors including energy, infrastructure, and real estate developments. The Tier 1 Scottish infrastructure team (key partners Stuart Barr, Victoria Miller and Chris Owens) is highly active across the UK and Ireland, advising a broad mix of private and public sector clients on infrastructure projects across all markets.

Our work ranges from the procurement/bid phase, through construction, into operation and now onto handback and expiry. Chris Owens specialises in student accommodation DBFO procurements, regularly advising both Universities and private sector clients, and in district heating projects and EV charging concession contracts.

Work highlights:

  • Advised the University of Sussex on its procurement of 1,900 beds of student accommodation on their Falmer campus (West Slope) in partnership with Balfour Beatty.
  • Advised LSE and the Universities of Birmingham and Essex on the delivery of c 3,500 new student beds in 2021.
  • Winner of the Property Week Student Accommodation Awards Professional Team of the Year 2020, 2021 and 2023.
  • Advised Equitix and Equans as the successful bidder on the Kingston University student accommodation project.
  • Advising the Ministry of Justice in respect of its portfolio of PFI prisons and its framework for procurement of prison operation contracts, including prison expansion, handback and expiry.
  • Advising the FM Contractor on the recent Velindre Cancer Centre Welsh MIM scheme.
  • Advising the lenders on the first two education projects to reach financial close under the Welsh Education Partnership.
What our clients say:

‘The projects team provides clear advice setting out the current position, but also suggesting options for the way forward to resolve issues. This pragmatism and understanding of the sectors in which they operate sets them apart from other firms.’

‘Chris Owens has been phenomenal in supporting our project. He has been helpful, knowledgeable and commercially pragmatic in the advice he has provided and I would have no hesitation in personally referring him for future work.’

‘Stuart Barr is an outstanding leader of both his team and other parties involved in projects.’

The Candidate Required

We are now looking to appoint an ambitious qualified lawyer with 4-6 years PQE who wishes to advance their abilities and knowledge at a top tier international law practice. The successful applicant will primarily support Chris on student accommodation, EV and district heating but may also be involved in University-focussed net zero initiatives and will be expected to support the wider Scottish team on PPP and general infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland.

Where they are not based in our Edinburgh office, they should expect to split their time between our Edinburgh and Glasgow offices. The successful applicant will also benefit from opportunities to travel to university campuses around the UK.

The successful applicant will:
  • ideally have gained experience in a large commercial firm working on long-term infrastructure partnership projects, preferably with experience of public procurement processes
  • have a strong academic background, attention to detail
